Latvian Qualifications Framework (LQF) has 8 levels (1 – the lowest, 8 – the highest).

Levels reflect the complexity level of acquired knowledge, skills and competences (learning outcomes).

LQF covers stages of education starting from the basic education (level 1 – special basic education) to the highest education (level 8 – doctoral studies).

Level of professional qualification
Till 1 august 2022 in Latvia had a system of five professional qualifications levels (PQL, 1 – the lowest, 5 – the highest).

PQL system covers only professional qualifications (basic education, secondary and higher education stages).

PQL reflects readiness of a person to perform work of certain stage of complexity and responsibility.

Learning outcomes

Learning outcomes are knowledge, skills and competences acquired during a certain period of learning.

In Latvia, learning outcomes are stipulated by state education standards and occupational standards (for the professional qualifications).

Learning outcomes of higher education are defined by higher education institutions.

Timber Lorry Driver

  • Knowledge

    1. The knowledge necessary at the level of notion in order to perform the basic tasks of professional activity:
    1.1. forest structure and basic functions;
    1.2. occupational illnesses and their reasons.
    2. The knowledge necessary at the level of understanding order to perform the the basic tasks:
    2.1. forest industry laws and regulations;
    2.2. basics of technical mechanics;
    2.3. basic principles of logistics
    2.4. reading of geographical maps;
    2.5. professional terms in the state and at least in one foreign language.
    3. The knowledge necessary at the level of use in order to perform the basic tasks of professional activity:
    3.1. timber hauler or its stock structure, operation and technical documentation (characteristic quantities , structure principles, exploitation rules);
    3.2. timber hauler or its stock driving principles;
    3.3. working methods in special circumstances (narrow forest roads, U-turns, unfavourable weather conditions);
    3.4. round timber products assortment and its loading/unloading with a manipulator;
    3.5. measuring of round timber products;
    3.6. daily and periodical technical maintenance and repair of a timber hauler or its stock;
    3.7. basics of hydraulics and hydrostatics;
    3.8. electrical scheme and electrical equipment operation principles of a timber hauler and its stock;
    3.9. work and material inventory, technological process cost calculation, electronic data exchange work with a computer and software;
    3.10. environmentally-friendly work methods meeting the forestry requirements;
    3.11. road traffic rules and safety;
    3.12. labour protection;
    3.13. fire safety rules, fire-extinguishing methods;
    3.14. environmental protection;
    3.15. provision of the first aid in case of fire and accidents;
    3.16. legal employment relations;
    3.17. state language;
    3.18. one foreign language at the level of communication.

  • Skills

    1. To plan and organise the own work, be responsible for the own work result.
    2. To find, group and select the necessary information by using handbook to gain information.
    3. To read the work task, route maps, orientate oneself in the surroundings.
    4. To drive timber hauler or its stock in the specific areas and weather conditions.
    5. To assess the round timber quality and measure it.
    6. To load and unload the round timber by using a manipulator.
    7. To use the computer equipment set up in the timber hauler or in its stock, use the necessary software.
    8. To perform daily, technical and periodical maintenance of the timber hauler, its stock or manipulator.
    9. To perform daily and periodical maintenance and simple repair works of the timber hauler or its stock that do not need maintenance services.
    10. To understand the timber hauler or timber hauler’s cstock and manipulator’s structure and principles of operation.
    11. To know the  laws and regulations in the field of forestry necessary for performance of the work duties.
    12. To provide the compliance with the environmental protection requirements, use environmentally- friendly materials.
    13. To follow the work order, labour protection requirements and use individual safety means.
    14. To observe fire safety rules, use fire-extinguishing materials and devices.
    15. To provide the first aid.
    16. To understand manufacturing costs formation principles, record the performed work and used materials and make a cost calculation of the technological process.
    17. To have a good command of the state language.
    18. To have a good command of one foreign language at the level of communication.
    19. To use professional terminology in the state language and in one foreign language.
    20. To observe the legal employment regulations.

  • Competences/ autonomy

    1. Ability to plan and organise own work and work place by meeting labour protection, fire safety and environmental protection requirements.
    2. Ability to perform the work tasks in high quality by meeting the requirements set in the laws and regulations in the field of forestry.
    3. Ability to drive a timber hauler or the stock of the timber hauler.
    4. Ability to load and unload the cargo using a manipulator.
    5. Ability to keep a timber hauler or its stock in technical work order, perform daily and periodical maintenance and simple repair works which do not need maintenance services.
    6. Ability to identify and distinguish the round assortments of the timber.
    7. Ability to use computer, data entry and processing, email, internet and geographic information system software at work.
    8. Ability to record the performed work and used material, control the course and quality of the work performance, nake the cost calculation of the technological process.
    9. Ability to provide first aid in the case of fire and accidents.
    10. Ability to ensure compliance with the legal employment regulations.
    11. Ability to communicate in the state language and at least in one foreign language.
    12. Ability to perform work independently and be responsible for the own work result.
